TOUR 6. THE SEVEN WONDERS OF ROME

This is a Tour for those with limited time.

If you want to make the best of your few free hours before attending a conference, a meeting or something else, consider the following program: we have chosen for you the 7 wonders of Rome, this is your "must see" list when you are in the Eternal City!
Not necessarily in the following sequence, the Tour will proceed thus:

We meet at the famous Spanish Steps, designed by Italian architects in the 18th century, but financed by the French(!). They are a remarkable reminiscence of centuries passed by: with the wonderful Fountain of the Little Boat by Bernini's father (Barcaccia) at the feet of the Stairs and the the Church of the Holy Trinity on top. The Steps soon became a meeting point for artists, musicians, painters, travellers on their educational trips, and Roman youth. (This beautiful staircase  welcomes us to the city as we start our journey.)

Not far away we find the second must-see: the Trevi Fountain , famous worldwide from the movie “La dolce Vita” by Italian film Director Federico Fellini. The water rushes down cliff sides and rocks between large statues in a stream to create a contrast of forces. Toss a coin in and you will certainly one day return to the Eternal City.
Then we head off to the “Vittoriano”, also known as the "Wedding Cake"! This incredible building rises up to symbolize the Victory of Unifying all of Italy to become a Kingdom. This immense marble
monument commemorates King Victor Emanuel II with a immense equestrian statue, and houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier below. This huge building with stupendous mosaics and statues was inspired by an ancient roman Sanctuary which was 5 times its size!

We continue to the ancient Pantheon. We marvel at how it is still standing, since it was originally built by the Romans in the 1st century B.C.!   The Pantheon was dedicated to all Gods of Greek-Roman mythology, it was rebuilt and designed by Emperor Hadrian, and later on converted to a Christian Basilica.

Nowadays it functions as a celebrative church and houses the Tomb of the great painter Raphael and the first Kings of Italy. We admire the fantastic design and architecture of the Emperor Hadrian.

Next stop is Castlel Sant'Angelo, former mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, then a fortress, a prison and a Papal residence. Standing on top of it, the Archangel Gabriel.

From here we go directly to the impressive St. Peter's Square in the Vatican City, to admire the very heart of the Catholic Church and the Dome of the Basilica, a masterpiece of architecture, designed by Michelangelo. Be amazed at its dimensions, and imagine how long it took to finish!

Last but not the least we go to the Colosseum. This is the wonder we have all heard about, the one we have all seen in movies. Only a 5th of the building is left, but still stands proudly for us to enjoy today. This is the one to beat them all!
